Scared of rain, thunderstorms and fireworks
Q: My vet gave me clomicalm and then told me that i could use benadryl for kids. that medication is only liquid or the kind that melts on your tongue. i know my dog won't put up with that. can we use the regular benadryl and then just cut it in half? what would you suggest? we have a beagle/shepherd about 9 years old in good health and very active. thanks!
A: Benadryl tablets are 25mg each. the usual dose for dogs is 1 or 2 mg per pound. the tablets can be split if necessary.

Skin irriation
Q: My dog has had a re-occuring redish to purple rash that blistors on her abdominal area as well as her back legs and inner thighs. she is exposed to a wide variety of possible causes, but i need further information as to what it may be and how to treat this possible allergy. she is in contact with burning nettal, poison ivy, wet conditions.etc.. she is also a lab/chesapeake cross if that helps you any. if you have any information as to what this may be please let me know asap.
A: Most commonly this is not direct contact allergy but either inhalent allergy or food allergy less likely. only way to tell what allergic to is to have blood or skin test done for inhalent allergens and restricted low allergy single protein dietary trials to see if food involved
Barking dog
Q: What can i do to stop incessant barking for apparently no reason?
A: Constant barking is a sign of unhappiness in dogs. i suggest working with a trainer or behaviorist to correct this.
