Car sickness
Q: Can you administer dramamine to a dog with recurrent car or motion sickness? if not, what do you suggest as a sickness preventive fro travelling dogs? we sometimes place a towel or sheet over the crate when traveling to shows, but we have one young dog (5 months) who gets nauseated every time we travel-even if it is just to the vet!
A: Yes you can. use 1/2 the human dose.

Chihuahuas
Q: Our little dog got a cut or something on paw will not eat does not go to bathroom at all and will not drink.we have been forcing fluids until we can go to vet.its been three days should we continue to force fluids ?
A: I think you should have your pet examined by your veterinarian.

Peeling pads
Q: My husband runs his dogs in fox pens and they are peeling there pads almost completly. the only thing he has changed is his dog food. the vet we took the dogs to said they are lacking something?we have tried pad heel and everything. please give us a suggestion ? thanks
A: I would try applying healing agents like vitamin e opened from capsules on to pads as well as aloe vera gel. also consider supplements like vita chews, brite coat xs as well as prozyme from 1800petmeds. also consider all natural diet like pet guard or wellness
Shop for: vitamin, prozyme, 1800petmeds

My dog was spayed 4 days ago
Q: Yesterday his sack was swollen and brusied semi hard. today it is larger but he is eating and drinking. constantly licks trying to keep him from doing so. i called the vet that did the procedure she said that it is actually normal for him to be swollen size of baseball and if he would stop licking it would help just to monitor him it actually looks like his testicals are still there but of course they are not he will be 2 in june is this normal? should i be woried. he also has gaps were stiches are suppose to be
A: Take him back to vet for exam. likely just what we call a seroma which is a collection of blood in the scrotum which is an occasional complication of neutering, but you want to make sure no intection. some dogs need an e collar to prevent them from making it worse which your vet can give you. most seromas if left alone resolve within a few weeks

Dog hairball cough?
Q: I have a dog and he is coughing like my cat would if he had a hairball. is it possible for dogs to have hairballs. or another way to describe it is that he coughs like he needs something to come out. what should i do.
A: I would take to vet as he could have infection or possibly allergic or inflammatory airway disease. an exam and cbc/stool check as well as maybe x rays can sort out

Heatjworm medicine
Q: Our dog cannot take the once a day for heartworms. this pill makes her sick and she throws up. we have been giving her filaribits plus 60 mg, but we have told this medicine is no longer available. could you recommend one that is daily? thank you
A: We know of no once a day heartworm preventative. you should consider one of the once a month products.

Mange
Q: I have a two puppies both less than a year old. and we're having severe trouble with fleas. while the smaller hairier of the two puppies has more flease the large dog is developing problems from scratching. she's had her hair fall out in places and keeps getting sores from scratching. i was wondering if there's a chance she might be developing mange or if there's anything i could do to help get my dogs taken care of. because i don't personally feel that it's mange because from what i've read mange is very contagious and only one of the two dogs is suffering hair loss.
A: Some types of mange are not conatagious such as demodex. only your vet through skin scrape can rule out. consider good flea control with topical advantage or front line as well as treating house for fleas. can use oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound twice daily for itching. if no help see your vet
Shop for: advantage

Insatiable thirst
Q: My dog will be 10 yrs. old soon. he has a constant thirst, but holds his urine very well. when i take him out to potty, he urinates for a very long time.
A: He needs urine check and exam as well as blood work at vet to rule out kidney issues, diabetes, liver issues, infections, etc
