Small lump near hind quarter
Q: I have a 10 year old female bulldog who is in excellent condition. but i just found a small ball - the size of a dime on her left hind leg, near the knee. the ball moves when you press on it but it does not seem to cause her any pain. i am taking her to the vet but would like to know what you think it is?
A: Sounds like a subcutaneous skin cyst or lump which is likely not a problem. but have your vet check it out

My dog is limping alot
Q: My dog is 5 yrs old and had surgery on her right back leg for a damaged/torn meniscus about a year and a half ago. she recently has started to limp and hold her leg up. i am bringing her to the vet next week but would like to know if there is something we can do in the mean time to help her with the pain. thank you the soonest you can get back to me would be greatly appreciated. catherine
A: I would try her on buffered aspirin at dose of 5 mg per pound orally once to twice daily with food. stop if any upset stomachs occur. also can start her on glucosamine products like super joint enhancer from 1800petmeds as well as extra antioxidant vitamins like vitamin e at dose of 400iu daily and vitamin c in form of ester c at dose of 1000 mg twice daily
Shop for: vitamin, joint enhancer, 1800petmeds, aspirin

Cut pad
Q: My dog cut her back paw pinky pad. it hasn't stopped bleeding for 3 hours. do i need to take her to go get stiches? i cleaned it out but don't know what else to do. do they heal on their own?
A: The pad is very blood rich area and also not a great area to stitch in many cases. most of them respond well to compression wraps and then slowly heals over time. should take to vet

Kidney stones
Q: I have spend thousands of dollars trying to get this dog well. 15 kidney stones were removed last year and she constantly has urinary infections, straining and blood in urine. the last time she was put on anitibiotic and methio form chewables. should she be on something daily to acidify her urine. dr. said it was not food related. what would you suggest. i am broke dealing with it but love her very much.
A: Try a natural home made diet. check out dr. pitcairns book called dr. pitcairns guide to natural health for dogs and cats for great recipes. you could also add vitamin c in form of ester c at 500 mg twice daily if stones are not calcium oxylate stones.
